General

Quitting PlantDesigner

Quitting is a book-recording process. It always takes some time to save information about the current user location, create some metrics, and notify the project team about changes.

Process

Design Panel

Design panel contains a number of tabbed windows - editors for Plant, P&ID, Group of P&D items, and Item. Editors are used for creation, update, searching, messaging, and removal of these objects.

Before creating new object always press Reset button. Normally reset means returning the dialog state to the beginning or no-data state. Crenger treats reset as a moment for fetching default solution deduced from the project context. This solution is called "auto-completion".

Drawing P&ID Item Tags

Crenger produces P&ID without item tag baloons. It does not conform to conventional non-digital practice. This option allows adding baloons to "raw" P&ID. Crenger auto-updates the baloon contents if P&ID item is modified.

P&ID Annotation Editor

Every P&ID shall have annotation. It decribes the process implementation and operation, all the P&ID groups, and reliability strategy. Annotation is critical for the control design and the plant commissioning as well.

P&ID Item Locator

For P&Ids bigger than the screen size, part of the items is hidden. Item Locator allows to quickly find the item.

Plant Logo Editor

Logo is an table image. Its cells contain metadata about the drawing and the company logo icon. Once the metadata type is described, the table cell contents are auto-generated directedly from a drawing requested.

Objects and Text Mapping to Plant Layout or P&ID

Layout or P&ID region may be mapped to text, the plant subarea containing a nuber of P&IDs, P&ID, or its item. Mapping creates bi-directional links between objects and drawings and makes navigation fast and easy.

Process Flow Diagram

PFD is Process Flow Diagram. It is a graph of of interlinked nodes, each one represents the plant subsystem or Process Module - the group of items on P&ID.

PFD is auto-generated after Process Modules are defined and linked.

P&ID Symbols

P&ID symbols are generic; they depict the equipment type. All other details are moved to the database and may be retrieved by the mouse click. Some symbols are compound, they depict stable combinations of the main item and auxiliary ones. Typical example is motor equipped with winding temperature detectors.

Global Fluid Update

Allowable updates include the fluid parameters and type change for P&ID, the group of its items, selected area on P&ID, or Plant. This option is used when the subsystem is copied and scaled. To replace the fluid data for other item data, Pick option is used.

Global Update of P&ID Item Attributes

Single P&ID item attributes may be modified by using the Design Panel. To update simultaneously many items belonging to the same subarea, P&ID, or Plant, the user builds the item filter, selects the attributes for update, and Crenger does the rest. Examples are moving from manual valves to automatic ones, from flanged valves to butt welded, from one piping material to another.

Global Update of P&ID Item Description

Usually P&ID item description contains two distinct nouns. The first relates to principle process or the item owner and the second identifies the item. The former may be repeated in many item descriptions. This option allows global description update - within the project, subarea, or P&ID.

Scaling P&ID Items

There are two types of the P&ID or its items group scale - the capacity rate and the pressure rating. Both are handled by Crenger. It does not allow big changes as they may disregard the equipment applicability bounds. For instance, the variable speed drive specific cost jumps after the 1200 MV capacity.

Equipment Tag Definitions

It is a collection of default tag prefixes used for the P&ID item tag compilation. Prefixes may be customized using Labels menu.

Viewing P&ID Item Tags

If this option is selected, when mouse is over the P&ID item, its tag pops up.

Tagging Algorithm Editor

The P&ID tag, and its item tags are auto-generated by Crenger using an algorithm. It describes the initial tag index, how it is incremented, and its scope - P&ID, the plant subarea, or the whole plant. The same principle applies to wiring, control events, order packages, etc.

P&ID Item Tag Components Order Editor

Besides the lateral prefix and index the tag may include the P&ID index and some label detailing the item. For piping it may contain info about the schedule, material, and the nominal size. The motor may be decsribed by its output rating and the speed. All these parts order may be edited here.

Tag Prefixes and Format Customization

To customize the lateral tag prefix, enter your prefix into Use Id column and tick Accept. Here the Recurring Pattern group item tags and the tags scope may be customized as well.

Global Update of P&ID Item Tags

Tag is linked to the item essential information. Crenger tracks its updates and periodically synchronizes the tag and the information. This option is for manual synchronization. it may be needed when the number of daily updates is big.

Engineering Calculators

To produce the result, calculators may read the P&ID item data. The output is tied to the specific item and stored in the database.

Underdrain shall accept full flowrate from special P&ID items: overflow piping, rupture discs and pressure relief valves. Underdrain design produces piping sizes, layout, and costs.

Design Robustness Analyzer

Design robustness deals with an ability of P&ID items to withstand the fluid pressure. It is a ratio of maximum pressure defined by mechanical design and the process design pressure.

P&ID Item Selectors Editor

Selector has no limitation on selection rules. It analyzes not only the P&ID items textual attributes, but any parameters, and even links with other items.

Operation sequences editor

Each process module may have a number of operation modes - batch or continuous. Usually they include duty, maintenance, backwashing, cleaning. etc. Each mode shall be linked to operation start/stop sequences. They may be created and edited here.

Process module states editor

To architectures the discrete process control, the plant is represented as a collection of subsystems or process modules. Unlike the former, the process module shall produce some unique effect like to pump, to filter, etc. Each module has the same set of allowable discrete states: collective fault, not ready, ready, not healthy, running and autorun. In turn each state describes the unique combination of the discrete P&ID item events like "to open" the valve or "to run" the motor. This editor is intended for the module states creation and update.
